The Trumpeter

I watched him play like he was painting the song, his fingers danced the melody and swayed through the tune. Colors lifting me up and down as his hands timed in rhythm – Jazz. His instinct moving us, each breath defining the lyric of soul. Subtle slides giving motion to the current of the night. A quiet enticing choreography of instrument and man breathing passion into life.

On Monday February 9th I attended Live from Gramercy Park, a new performance series at The Players. I’m not typically a fan of trumpet but I had the pleasure to have my world open up a bit and witness Riley Mulherkar, a to be watched Julliard musician, it was a gift in many ways.

There was something in the way his hands told the story. I could read each note and follow along with him. Gentle and thoughtful, he took care with every tone and with our attention. His respect for the music he was sharing shown through. His heart filled with the love for his music opening up to all of us watching, listening, dancing in silence as his talent filled the room.

I, in the middle, was inspired with poetry and ideas for painting and color. What a pleasure.
